A summer wedding is popular because the flowers are blooming, the warm sun is shining (most of time but it is the UK so it’s not always guaranteed!), and everyone is in holiday mode.
I wanted to talk about some tips that can enhance the overall guest experience and keep them cool and happy throughout the day.
1) Order of service fans Why not get your order of service printed on fan shaped cards to create not only a funky looking order of service but one that has a physical purpose! Guests can keep themselves cool whilst knowing what will happen during the ceremony and who is part of the bridal party. There are many options online or you could get a bespoke design created by a wedding stationer.
2) Parasols or umbrellas If you’re having an outdoor ceremony then keeping your guests shaded from the hot sun may be a priority for you, especially if you have some elderly guests attending. Speak with your venue about whether they provide parasols, or look to hire some in.
Another alternative is to hire or purchase some umbrellas which guests can use whilst they wait for the ceremony to start, and you could even get ones that match your wedding colour scheme! (Also, if the weather takes an unexpected turn for the worst then you are already prepared for that eventuality!)
3) Hydration station There’s no doubt that your guests will feel thirsty throughout the day in the heat, so ensure you keep them hydrated with a water station. Fill big glass dispensers with cold water and fresh lemon slices or mint leaves. Ask your venue or wedding coordinator to keep them topped up. You can still serve your alcoholic or soft beverages during the drinks reception and in this case the water station will be even more important!
4) Mini suntan lotions If budget allows, maybe give each guest a mini bottle of suntan lotion so they can ensure they don’t get sun burnt in the warm weather. If budget is a bit tight then perhaps purchase some bigger bottles that can be available for guests to use as and when they may need it.
5) Frozen treats Bring the fun factor to your summer wedding with frozen treats! Whether it’s ice pops, gelato or frozen yoghurt, these will keep your guests cool and may even act as an ice-breaker for some of those guests that may not know each other. Serve them after some canapes during cocktail hour, or make them a palette cleanser between your wedding breakfast main course and dessert.
